Trying to cope with the unbearable cold – a genuine priority in Germany’s capital at the moment. Melt! Booking is contributing as well by opening the doors to Berlin’s warm and cozy clubs. On Friday (3.2.), the Brookyln-based Friends (supported by Easter and Sissters) will perform at Magnet Club. Their music was described as “slick slice of indie pop with a great stuttering beat, an addictive bassline and confident vocals”, and even though, their debut album is still in the pipeline, singles like “Friend Crush” and “I’m His Girl” are ample proof to predict a new hype on the horizon.

As part of CTM.12, Hudson Mohawke will get behind the DJ booth at Gretchen mixing his trademark sound collages as heard on his debut Butter (2009) and the Satin Panthers EP (2011).

After gigs in Heidelberg and Leipzig, Matthew Herbert will perform ONE PIG at HAU2 on Tuesday (7.2.). Last but not least producer and remixer Jacques Lu Cont, whose now legendary Fabric Live CD cemented his reputation as a DJ that could cover many styles so effortlessly, will be DJing at Flamingo on 16th February.

After his exclusive Berghain performance, Matthew Herbert will bring his performance One Pig to the stage once more in February 2012. After One One and One Club, Herbert released the final and most controversial part of his trilogy, One Pig, on which he documents the life of a pig “from birth to plate“. “My motivation was to acknowledge the reality of what it is to eat meat. And for me the part of the problem we have in our society is a huge disconnect between what we do and the consequences of our actions.” With innovative instruments and a cook in tow, Herbert comes around with yet another unique performance, which shouldn’t be missed.

Just a few days ago, the British NME presented a list of the 20 most promising bands of 2012. Besides such newcomer acts as Grimes and Citizens!, Brooklyn-based combo Friends was among the chosen ones as well. Even though, Friends haven’t been around for two long, the four-piece band already gained praise from critics at CMJ in New York. Luckily, we’re also catching up pretty fast across the pond. The British Independent, for instance, described their sound as “a slick slice of indie pop with a great stuttering beat, an addictive bassline and confident vocals”. After their debut single “Friend Crush”, Friends released a second single, “I’m His Girl” via Lucky Numbers as a little album teaser. In February, the band will also come over to Germany for gigs in Berlin and Hamburg.

Friends will be supported by Sissters, a Berlin-based duo, which tackles the gaps between punk, noise und garage, loud and quiet, complex rhythms and catchy hooklines, delicate and forceful vocals as well as the Berlin-based duo Easter.

With songs like “Garden“, “Trouble” or “Household Goods“, Orlando Higginbottom a.k.a. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs caused quite a stir in the past two years. Clicking beats, whispered lyrics and reserved post-disco attitude fit the images perfectly. The Oxford-based musician with the archaic and futuristic headpieces already released three EPs via the Berlin- and London-based label Greco-Roman before turning to the long-awaited debut in 2012 (Universal). “It crosses lots of genres and sub-genres of dance music, and I don’t really know or care about all these genres, I think they’re a bit useless and unnecessary,” he says. “It’s just dance music at the end of the day.” Clicking beats, whispered lyrics and reserved post-disco attitude, however, fit perfectly. In April, he’s back on the stage!

In 2012, we continue our search for all the fantastic newcomers with our monthly party series Introducing. We kick off with Age of Consent's edgy synth sounds and vocals. The band consists of two former Shitdisco members, who learned their lesson in terms of exhausting everyday life with an band. Their music, such as their brand-new EP The Beach, is centred around lofty and modest melodies reminding us of timeless heroes like New Order.

The London-based Citizens!, who released their debut single „True Romance“ on 12th December, will also be in the mix as well as the Berlin-based combo Ter Haar, the German capital's answer to post-rock.

Tickets for our Introducing party at the Berlin-based Magnet/Comet Club are available via koka36.de and eventim.de. For our next Introducing party with Chairlift, Lianne La Lavas and Navet on 24th February, we'll say goodbye to Magnet/Comet Club move to Heimathafen Neukölln by the way.

Star Slinger a.k.a. Darren Williams is one hell of a newcomer, and one hell of an act to continue our

Niki & The Dove describe their music as “flamboyant pop”. Indeed, the three-piece band from Stockholm doesn’t care about minimalistic arrangements in the slightest. In their hands, dark synth washes turn into massive tsunamis that only singer Malin Dahlström is able to conquer with her distinguished voice.

Vondelpark are rather drawn to fair and floating ambient pop instead. With sophisticated drumbeats and hypnotic vocals, the UK trio already gained praise from various blogs throughout the net without even running a social media profile of their own – quite impressive.

Certain People is presented by Melt! Booking and Berghain. The monthly concert series takes place on 12th January at the Berlin-based Berghain. Tickets are available at all well-known ticket shops.

Skrillex’ brand-new EP Bangarang is only a little teaser to the long-awaited SKRILLEX – GREY DAZE TOUR 2012 in February. He already polished Korn’s guitar-laden tunes with his brute electro sounds, and also collaborated with the legendary group The Doors more than once. He produced and remixed stars like Black Eyed Peas (“Rock That Body”), La Roux (“In For The Kill”), Bruno Mars (“Just the way you are“) and UK’s finest Dubstep Nero (“Promises“). He doesn’t refrain from genre borders, that’s for sure. Bangarang is proof enough. The EP is already available in digital form, and will be released on CD on 24th January.

Tickets for his Germany tour are available in ticket shops as well as via www.eventim.de. We already announced the Stuttgart venue upgrade to Schleyer-Halle. Gigs in Hamburg, Berlin, and Munich were also relocated to Sporthalle, Columbiahalle, and Zenith. All purchased tickets for previous venues remain valid, of course.

2012 is around the corner, and we’re all excited about all the upcoming performances already. We already announced new Foster the People, WU LYF, and Chairlift performances last week. However, there’s more: Hudson Mohawke will also pay us a visit in February. When he isn’t busy working on beats for artists like Rihanna, he puts together his own tracks, which he released on his debut Butter and his 2011 EP Satin Panthers. Thereby the DJ and Producer from Glasgow, who was socialised with jungle, jazz and hip hop, melted elements of funky rhythms with rock attitude, outlined by swirling synth waves and clicking electronics. We are looking forward to sophisticated electro collages.
